Festival Essentials

This week my posts are following a slightly different schedule, I’ve not really been up to much and didn’t want to write something just for the sake of it. Instead I’ve decided to post just once (today Friday) ahead of a weekend away at Lost Village festival. We’re going to be talking festival essentials.

I don’t know about you but there are certain things I cannot go without. When you’re going to a festival, especially if you’re going to be camping there are some things you NEED to have with you in order to be prepared for all eventualities. Now I have to be transparent here, I’m staying in boutique camping so will have showers, proper toilets and a pretty cushty sleeping arrangement so I’m going to focus on the more general festival necessities.

Let’s start with a big one for me, antibacterial gel and antibac wipes. I’m a germophobe at the best of times and we all know festivals are a breeding ground for muck and mire. This one is a must, and will go wherever I do throughout the weekend. Don’t even get me started on the general loo situation at festivals…nasty. Next is deodorant, following along a similar line you’re going to want to top this up over the course of the day. I’ll be taking a little spray one with me for times when I nip back to the tent. This is closely followed by SPF, I’m super pale so this is a 100% must have. Travel size factor 30 is an absolute lifesaver, my old manager actually bought me one of these Nivea ones a couple of years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. It’s such a good size and really handy, I’ve gone through a couple of bottles and would highly recommend.

Next is some skincare, anyone who knows me will tell you I’m crazy strict about cleansing my skin. I’m VERY prone to breakouts so this is an important one for me. I always double cleanse so this miniature micellar water will be fab for taking off my makeup and then the travel size Glossier milk jelly cleanser will make sure my skin is squeaky clean. There will obviously be copious amounts of glitter this weekend so it will be much needed. I’m also a lip balm nut and have been loving Glossier balm dot com at the moment, this salve is universal so great for a weekend away! Hairbands and clips are a necessity, you never know when you might want to get your hair out of your face. Last but not least for beauty is a travel size perfume. They save having to lug a full bottle around and takes up so much less space! Plus it will mean you stay smelling extra fresh all weekend.

Moving away from toiletries and on to some clothing/accessory essentials. First up, a good old kag-in-bag. I’ve had mine since I was about 15 and I’m not going to a festival without it. We all know how unpredictable the British weather is so I want to be fully prepared and this one folds up in to such a handy size it’s absolutely perfect. Next is further sun protection in the form of sunglasses and a cap. I’m also fair haired as well as pale skinned so my scalp burns easily. If I’m going to be out all day in the sun it’s good to have a cap so I can try and keep my head protected. I love a dad baseball cap, this New Era one is a fave. Sunglasses need little explanation. They hide hangovers and also stop you from squinting in the sun, meaning LESS WRINKLES and that’s always a good thing right? Have you got yourself a portable phone charger? If not, why? You won’t have your usual access to charging points so this is a no brainer. Instax Mini 8…because you want to remember your weekend and this is such a cute way to do it! I’m also thinking about buying a disposable camera for laughs. There’s something really fun about truly capturing a moment and not knowing what it’s going to come out like until you go and pick up the processed photographs. Last but not least is a cardholder, you only need the essentials…ID, cash and a card just in case. No need for a big bulky purse and this also means you’re less likely to lose something important from your wallet.

Now that’s not technically EVERYTHING I would count as an essential but it’s a pretty good start. You might be a able to tell I’m not a light traveller. Three other things I’ll definitely be packing are: wellies (for obvious reasons), dry shampoo (no one wants to be dealing with the faff of washing their hair at a festival if they don’t have to) and warm cosy clothes (leggings, big socks and a big jumper because it gets COLD in those tents at night).

I know there are quite a few festivals going on this weekend so if you’re heading to one have the best time! Normal service will resume next week.
